For terminal patients, emphasizing peace, dignity, and spiritual preparation
Eternal God, Author of Life and Comfort of the Weary,
As death’s shadow lengthens, we anchor our hearts in You—
not because grief is small, but because Your promises stand firm.
We thank You for walking this valley with us.
When breath grows shallow and strength fails,
You whisper: "I am with you; do not fear."
For Your rod and staff that steady our steps, we praise You.
We thank You for sacred moments.
For whispered "I love yous" that transcend pain,
For hands held in holy silence,
For decades of memories condensed into eternal treasures.
"Precious in Your sight is the death of Your saints."
Lift the veil between earth and heaven.
When morphine clouds the mind,
Let Your Spirit speak comfort beyond words;
When final breaths come, reveal glimpses of glory—
"Today you will be with Me in Paradise."
Sanctify this parting.
Turn hospital beds into altars of surrender,
Mourning into anticipatory worship,
And earthly goodbyes into holy "see you laters."
"To live is Christ, to die is gain."
Compassionate Christ, who wept at Lazarus’ tomb,
Hold the trembling hands of those who remain.
Plant this truth deep: "Death has lost its sting."
May empty chairs whisper of resurrection dawn.
Prince of Peace, who conquered the grave,
Receive this precious soul into Your radiant presence.
Until we meet again where "every tear is wiped away,"
Keep our eyes fixed on the eternal embrace awaiting us all.
In Your victorious name, we pray. Amen.
