Combating substance abuse or harmful habits
Liberating God, Chain-Breaker and Fountain of New Beginnings,
In the grip of addiction’s relentless tide, we reach for You—
not because we’re strong, but because Your deliverance is certain.
We confess our powerlessness.
These chains we forged in darkness now bind us in daylight;
Yet You declare: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
For Your relentless pursuit of our hearts, we humbly thank You.
We thank You for glimpses of light.
For support groups that mirror Your steadfastness,
For counselors who reflect Your wisdom,
For each sober breath that whispers "hope."
"In all things, give thanks."
Arm us for daily battles.
When cravings roar louder than reason,
Anchor us in Your truth: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind."
Turn every "one day at a time" into a hymn of dependence.
Heal the roots beneath the ruin.
Where trauma birthed this thirst, pour Living Water;
Where shame carved deep trenches, plant seeds of worth;
Where isolation reigned, build communities of grace.
"The old has gone, the new has come!"
Transform our weakness into testimony.
Let every relapse teach resilience in Your mercy,
Every 24-hour victory shout "Christ in me,"
Until our story preaches: "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."
Lord Jesus, who turned water into wine and death into life,
Make our bodies temples of Your redemption.
May we declare with Paul: "I was blind, but now I see!"
In Your liberating name, we pray. Amen.
